A Safe Place
While Greater Victoria has all the facilities and culture of a larger centre, with a population of approximately 350,000, it is still a small city and enjoys the benefits of a smaller centre: friendly, community-minded residents and a low crime rate. Greater Victoria's overall crime severity index for 2009, which takes into account the seriousness of crimes, dropped by 10 per cent to 92.2, according to the annual police-reported crime statistics. The crime rate in Greater Victoria remains among the lowest in North America. The dip in crime across the Canada is largely due to effective crime-prevention programs.
When you add to that Canada's first-world status and reputation as a safe, secure country with stable and fair legal and policing systems, Greater Victoria has an exceptionally high degree of public safety.
