Greater Victoria has a competitive, well-educated, stable, and creative work force. A high percentage of residents have post-secondary education: 68 per cent compared to a national average of 56 per cent. Greater Victoria's four post-secondary institutions provide a continuous source of well-educated and trained staff, including all trades, computer science, engineering, marketing, and communications. All four post-secondary institutions have well-developed co-operative work programs.
The University of Victoria is consistently ranked one of Canada's top research universities and known for its leadership in innovation, inspired teaching and community engagement. More than 25,000 of its alumni live in the Greater Victoria area. UVic has one of the largest co-op education programs in the country, enabling students to combine study with work terms. Last year, nearly 1,533 students completed work terms in the Greater Victoria area, providing the region's businesses, organizations, and governments with the benefit of their knowledge and energy.
