Ship and Boat Building Jobs
Employment in the ship and boat building industry, which includes ship and boat repair in shipyards, was virtually flat in Greater Victoria from 2001 to 2006. This is much better performance than the industry provincially, which lost 16% of its jobs, or in Metro Vancouver, where 29% of jobs were lost.
Greater Victoria's ship and boat building industry improved its already strong position relative to BC from 2001 to 2006. The location quotient of 3.23 in 2006 means that ship and boat building jobs were more than three times as prevalent in Greater Victoria relative to the rest of BC.

These employment figures from the Census are for "place of work", meaning they are jobs that have a fixed location in Greater Victoria, regardless of where the worker lives.
